Value of your fee waiver

As you probably know, college application fees can really add up. In fact, the average application fee is currently $50 — and some schools can charge as much as $90. Multiply that by 6-10 schools, and you’re looking at hundreds of dollars just to apply.

Good thing we’re here!

We’ve told you that applying to college means applying to colleges. With the Coalition fee waiver, you can apply to schools without breaking the bank. And we make it easy! As you work on Part 1 of your application in Scoir, just answer a few simple questions to determine your eligibility.

If any of the following apply to you, you can apply to any Coalition member school for free, without providing any additional documentation or verification:

  • My family income falls within Income Eligibility Guidelines for the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch Program.

  • I have received a College Board, ACT or NACAC fee waiver.

  • I am eligible for a Pell Grant.

  • I have participated (or am participating) in TRIO programs (such as Upward Bound).

Additionally, many of our members extend fee waivers through our application for students who:

  • Are veterans or active members of the U.S. Armed Forces

  • Self-identify as the first in their family to attend college

  • Receive public assistance

  • Are enrolled in a federal, state, or local program that aids students from low-income families

  • Live in federally subsidized public housing, a foster home or are homeless.

  • Are a ward of the state or an orphan

  • Receive need-based scholarships elsewhere

  • Are being assisted by any college or university access program

Simply fill out the questionnaire, and you’ll see a personalized list of schools where you can apply for free. When it’s time to submit your application, you’ll automatically bypass payment.

Keep in mind: some schools do not charge an application fee at all. And many schools will provide additional fee waivers directly to students, so if you don’t qualify via the criteria above, you can always ask colleges and universities directly about fee waiver opportunities.

We want to make sure the cost of applying doesn’t hold you back!
