The Coalition for College Establishes Registry of Community-Based Organizations

The Coalition forCollege announces the establishment of the Coalition CBO ID Registry, a vetted, national registry of community-based organizations (CBOs) that share the Coalition’s mission to make college a reality for all students.

The registry will make it easier for the 140-plus Coalition colleges and universities to learn about, reach out to, and potentially recruit from CBOs that support and advise students in their college preparations.

“CBO's provide critical support and access to information about applying to college for students that may not have that support in their secondary school. The Coalition CBO ID is a powerful tool to connect colleges and CBOs to support students,” said Audrey Smith, Vice President of Enrollment at Smith College.

For the first time, a CBO that is nonprofit, provides support services to students (preK-14), and/or directly advises students in their college search will be able to register for a Coalition CBO ID, or CCID, which is a permanent ID number.

Currently, all high schools have a unique ID number, which enables colleges and universities to track students by high school. The CCID will work the same way for CBOs, while also elevating their standing as verified organizations and enabling them to share their programs and services with Coalition member schools.

“The Coalition CBO ID Registry is more than just a compilation of organizations committed to college access,” according to Emmanuel Moses, Senior Manager of College Guidance of The Opportunity Network. “This registry acknowledges the full suite of service providers in this space whose work complements and enhances the programming provided to students on college campuses and in high school college offices toward college access and success. The registry is a critical step towards more inclusive and productive conversations in support of our shared goals.”

The Coalition for College is a diverse group of more than 140 distinguished colleges and universities across the U.S. that is committed to making college a reality for all high school students through its set of free, online college planning tools. The Coalition was founded by a group of dedicated college leaders in 2015 with the goal to improve the college application process for all students, particularly those from historically under-represented groups. Members are united in their mission to support lower-income, under-resourced, and/or first-generation students; provide responsible financial aid; and bolster students’ success in college—and beyond.
